Convention '09

Tourism Cares

Things you need to know...

  • Tourism Cares is NTA's official philanthropy
  • Tourism Cares' mission is to preserve the travel experience for future generations.  It accomplishes this by making grants to natural, cultural and historic sites worldwide, providing volunteer opportunities for travel and tourism professionals and giving scholarships to students studying tourism and hospitality.

Support Tourism Cares

Tourism Cares LogoNTA is proud to support Tourism Cares. There are a number of ways that you, as an NTA member and Convention '09 delegate, can do your part to further the mission of this incredible organization.

You can support Tourism Cares at the 2009 Convention

  • By purchasing a ticket to Tourism Rocks (Monday, Nov. 16) one of the industry's best dance parties
  • By bidding on an item in the Live Auction (Tuesday, Nov. 17)
  • By sharing your industry knowledge as a mentor to a 2009 scholarship recipient.

NTA Members and Tourism Cares Give Back to Reno

Join your fellow delegates and "give back" to our host city by participating in the NTA Members and Tourism Cares Give Back to Reno program. This year we will be placing a Wishing Well donation area in the Convention Mall to collect members' pocket change (or more) throughout the week. Tourism Cares will take the money collected and put it toward a grant for the Lear Theater. On the National Register of Historic Sites, the Lear is currently being renovated and will serve as a catalyst for a theater district in the Downtown Reno area.

Dance the Night Away at Tourism Rocks!

No one throws a party quite like Nevada, and delegates can experience that firsthand on Monday, November 16, at Tourism Rocks. This annual dance party provides the opportunity to informally network with your fellow tourism professionals while supporting Tourism Cares.

Tour suppliers and DMOs save by purchasing tickets when registering for Convention '09 for $40.00. (Tickets will be available on site for $50.00). And all tour operators attending Convention have been invited to attend the event as guests of the sponsors. That's right - tour operators can pick up their complimentary tickets at either the Nevada Commission on Tourism, Las Vegas CVA or Hard Rock Cafe booth.

Reception and Live Auction

Nothing is more exciting than watching auctioneer Ed Spear in action at the Tourism Cares Live Auction! Enjoy a glass of wine, beer or soft drink and mingle with your Convention colleagues and bid (or watch your friends bid) on some incredible travel packages and memorabilia on Tuesday, November 17, from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.  This is just one more opportunity to experience Tourism Cares putting the fun in fundraising!

Those who attended the NTA Convention in Pittsburgh last year TourismCarebus09will surely remember the beautiful motor coach donated by Prevost for the Tourism Cares Live Auction. Thanks to Prevost's generosity, there will be another brand new motor coach on the Convention floor this year! The Prevost X3-45, the ultimate intercity motorcoach, focuses on passenger comfort, embraces elements critical to drivers and operators, and continues Prevost's dedication to safety and the environment. New Prevost coaches produce 55% less nitrogen oxide and 90% less soot and ash than older models, making a difference and reminding us all to be socially responsible travelers.

To view this and other items and packages up for bid at this year's auction, visit the Tourism Cares Web site.

Mentor a Student

One of the most gratifying ways to give back to your industry is to share your expertise, knowledge and experience with a future travel professional.  The Tourism Cares Student Mentor program gives you that unique opportunity. Tours Operators, Suppliers and DMOs are asked to volunteer just a few hours of their time during Convention.  We assure you, it will be well worth the investment.
