Grassroots Action Network
In 2008, the Government Relations Committee resurrected the Grassroots Action Network with a more structure organization that would reach into every state and congressional district in the U.S.
The Grassroots Symposium gives GAN members the chance to get together, be educated on what they, as a GAN volunteer, can do to better effect change and take our collective voice to Capitol Hill.

The Grassroots Action Network is a group of industry travel leaders who are interested in governmental issues affecting the tourism industry. The network is a database of members who monitor legislative and regulatory activity in their region, report to NTA of emerging issues, and unite a coalition of travel colleagues to act on critical concerns.
NTA has consistently demonstrated itself to be a leader on governmental issues, and takes an activist role in identifying, monitoring and acting on legislation. The Grassroots Action Network strengthens NTA's ability to mobilize members on key policy issues.
What do GAN members do?
Network participants will serve as the "eyes and ears" of the travel and tourism economy in their local areas. When issues affecting the tourism industry arise -- such as travel taxes, sellers of travel laws, or access to public lands -- network members relay information to NTA headquarters and then respond appropriately to address the issue, by writing letters to legislators, meeting with government officials, or telephoning staff administrators. In short, network participants are advocates for NTA and the tourism industry.
What do GAN members receive?
NTA will provide information and assistance regularly to GAN members.
- Introductory "toolkit" with helpful information on contacting legislators, locating government information, grassroots organizing, media relations, and tourism issues.
- The Tuesday weekly e-newsletter, which often includes in-depth analysis of issues and additional information on NTA's governmental relations activities.
- Leadership opportunities will develop for members to serve as coordinators who organize other Network members in their regions and recruit new participants.
